Luke Has Record Setting Performance In Big Win Against Poudre

Luke throws for 250 yards and connects with Travis Sears for 89 yard TD to seal the victory

In a night when records fell, Luke put on a display of toughness Friday night in Ft. Collins. Coming into the game the Lightning was tied with Poudre at 6-1 and several experts were predicting a lopsided Impala win. Luke and the passing offense had a great night. Luke spread the wealth to 6 receivers and racked up 250 yards. Down 14-13 with 6:40 left in the game Luke hit Travis Sears with a record setting 89 yard TD. Luke followed that up with a nifty "run to the pylon" (above) 2 point conversion.

Luke and the Lightning end their regular season Friday night at home against Horizon. Congratulations Luke.

Three D1 Baseball Commits Star in Legacy Rocky Mountain Football Game

Luke Bublitz, Bryan Peters & Jake Stewart Shine on Diamond and Gridiron

All Star QB's and an all star WR led their teams in a thrilling Colorado 5A Front Range League football game Friday night in Ft. Collins. Luke Bublitz (#15) The Legacy Lightning QB, Bryan Peters (#2) Rocky Mountain QB, and Jake Stewart (#5) Rocky Mountain WR all had good games in the Lobo's 22-10 win against the Lightning. There was no surprise there. What may be a surprise is that all three of these football all-stars are committed to play D1 College Baseball.

The 2 QB's are both verbally committed to play baseball for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Jake Stewart is committed to the Stanford Cardinal. Best of luck to all three of these multi-sport all stars.

Bublitz has Lightning off to 2-0 Start

The Lightning are off to a 2-0 start and Sr. signal caller Luke Bublitz is anxious to get the offense rolling. In last nights 19-13 win over Ft. Collins Luke hit Bryson Romero with 2 TD's passes (38 and 36 yds) taking his career total to 19.

The Lightning offense has been sluggish start and will need to pick things up this week as the Lightning travel to Ft. Collins to play the 2-0 Rocky Mountain Lobos.

There were rumors earlier this summer that Luke Bublitz had suffered an injury that would sideline him for 2008 football season.The 6-foot-3, 195-pound gunslinger did get hurt. But it won't prevent him from leading the Broomfield (Colo.) Legacy offense this fall."Luke had a slightly torn labarum," explained Legacy head coach Wayne Voorhees. "But he is back throwing the ball around. He will be back. So we are excited about that. He is going to be a catalyst for us."Luke is real sharp. He is book smart and football smart. He makes good decisions. He is also a team leader. He has got a charismatic attitude and he gets our guys going. Physically, he is a big, tall kid that has a cannon. He is one of the best kids we've ever coached here."Bublitz helped Legacy to nine wins in 2007. The Lightening will have even higher expectations going into this season.Bublitz also excels in baseball. He plays both pitcher and third base."I think that Luke likes baseball maybe a little more," Voorhees said when asked which sport he thinks Bublitz will play after high school. "But I sat him down with [former CU quarterback and former minor league baseball player] Joel Klatt. Joel thinks he is better in football. So I think he is going to have some opportunities to play football in college, if he wants them."Representing Colorado in 'The Big Easy'Earlier this month, Wayne Voorhees coached a group of Colorado prepsters in the NFL HSPD National 7-on-7 tournament held in New Orleans.The team consisted of six players from Bear Creek, five from Legacy and one from Fort Lupton. They lost their first two games but bounced back by winning seven in a row before bowing out in the semifinals."Zach Thenell, from Bear Creek, was our quarterback and he did real well," said Voorhees. "He makes really good decisions. I was really impressed with him."Another Bear Creek kid on our team was Tommy Flanagan. He was really impressive. A lot of the other teams and the NFL people there were talking about his athleticism. He did a great job."Travis Sears and Beau Trigsted, two Legacy receivers, also showed well at the tournament."Those two are really coming into their own this summer," Voorhees said. "Travis is really starting to fill out. He is now 6-foot-5, 190-pounds. He is just a tough kid who goes up and gets passes."

Luke & Lightning Offense Catch Fire in Second Half of Lightning Route

After a rough start the Lightning offense clicked for 21 points in the 3rd quarter to beat Mountain Range 31-7.

In the first half the Lightning offense and defense sputtered thanks to 10 penalties for 85 yards. "I was getting very, very frustrated", Luke said of the first half. "I told the guys that we just have to keep our heads up and execute..."

In the third quarter the Luke and the offense did execute. Luke ended up putting up good numbers going 7 for 11 for 141 yards 1 TD and 1 Int.

Overall a good start for the Luke and the offense as they get ready to battle the rest of the Front Range league.

Bublitz has several Lightning records within his grasp

As the Lightning head into the 2008 season this Friday night at North Stadium vs. Mountain Range Luke Bublitz begins his quest to re-write the Lightning record books.

Already the record holder for passing yards in a season with 1,442 in 2007, Luke needs only 1,311 yds this year to pass Brady Van Sickle's (2000-2002) career mark of 2,849 yards.

The career TD's Passing record of 24 held by Noah Shepard (2002-2004) is also on Luke's radar as he is only 9 short of the record being at 16 now.

Also within Luke's grasp is the Lightning all-time total offense record of 3,401 yds held by Joey Applehans (2003-2006)

Luke Bublitz is one of the best all-around athlete's that Legacy HS has ever had. All district in Baseball twice and football once going into is senior year, Luke was also the Legacy High Scholar Athlete award winner in 2007.
